Sturminster Newton Literary Festival

It is with heavy hearts that we have taken the decision to postpone this year’s festival. It is the only and right thing to do in the light of continued concern and uncertainty about the spread of the coronavirus. We are grateful for all the tremendous help and encouragement we have received from our authors, speakers, entertainers, sponsors, local businesses, stallholders, volunteers and supporters. We are committed to the future success of the festival and will carry much of our planning over to next year’s festival, which will take place from Monday 14th to Sunday 20th June 2021.

Photography Competition 2020

Sturminster Newton Literary Festival is delighted to announce its first photography competition.

Send us a photo of a scene in and around Sturminster Newton that could illustrate the work of William Barnes or Thomas Hardy.  We’re after scenes that inspired their writing, including those that bring out the best in Sturminster Newton, such as the Mill, River Stour, thatched buildings, Town Bridge, Colber Bridge, as well as the immediate area.

Winning photographs will be published in a calendar sponsored by Rutters Solicitors that will be available in late 2020 and show off Sturminster Newton in a creative new light. The calendar design will include a quotation from the writing of either William Barnes or Thomas Hardy alongside each photograph used.
