Did er wander down be river-zide, be banks o’ gentle Stour” – Robert Young (Sturminster’s poet) with Rev. J.C. Mansel-Pleydell (Young’s first biographer)

When Robert Young died, St Mary’s vicar, Rev. J.C. Mansel-Pleydell, compiled a book of his most well-known poems for which he wrote a preface – and a poem about Young in his version of Dorset dialect.

Rev. J.C. Mansel-Pleydel commissioned a window in the church to commemorate his son, Evan. The window hints at the family’s 15th century ancestor who commissioned the first ever printing in England of sheet music.
