Seasons, weather, animals, birds, fish, plants and humans … how can we write about nature and our environmental concerns in fresh and original ways?

This creative writing workshop will be suitable for experienced and beginner writers, and will cover poetry, short fiction, and life-writing.

Using prompts, examples of nature writing, and discussion we will explore this subject in an enjoyable and free way.

It will get you writing and you will have the opportunity to read your work aloud if you wish. By the end of the 2 hours you should have some ideas and writing to take home and work on some more.

Sarah Steele lives in Dorset and writes fiction and poetry. She started and leads Wimborne Writing Group and the Poetry Society Stanza group based in Wimborne. She has led writing workshops at festivals, museums, libraries, and for specific groups of writers.

Writing as Sarah Barr, her work has been widely published in magazines and anthologies, and won competitions. Sarah has read and performed her work in London and in the South West. Her poetry has been shortlisted and placed in the Bridport Prize and she has twice won the Dorset Award in this competition. Her poetry won the Frogmore Poetry Prize in 2015 and the National Memory Day poetry competition in 2018. Her poetry pamphlet, ‘January’, was published in 2020, and her short fiction collection, ‘Night Zoo’, appeared in 2022.
